I was looking at this software for a niche auction site as well. I did notice that they are in England which causes some time difference in support emails. Their forums are probably flooded with spam users like many forums so they put you in a queue.. That is kind of a bummer. I hope there is little problem with this actual software working as it should. I am more interested in the software load on a server or performance issues which I cannot seems to find much info on.

Hi I recently installed the php probid script without issues. Support was excellent with the couple of questions I had. If you would like to see an example of a live site got to http://www.gonenow.com.au

So far we have made a few minor changes to one of the standard templates with no problems. Many Thanks Andrew

@everyone
Sorry for not responding to a lot of the comments. Development of the auction site was stalled due to a directional shift in the business model. Thankfully, I did not have to continue working on the PHPProBid auction site considering a lot of the complaints that have arrived here. I do not know of any other auction software that is as robust as PHPProBid, the ones I did see were lightweight and open source.

@Zigiti
I don't think I would classify a lot of the experiences here as misinformation. If there are certain aspects of the support for the software that users are unable to take advantage of then it's the PHPProBid staff who are not following through for ALL users. Maybe you had a positive experience with the developers, but clearly a lot of other people have been through frustrating situations trying to get this software up and running and finding help and support. Its unfortunate that customers will probably lose patience like I did and throw away their money in the process.

Alot of misinformation posted here. Updates are completely free to the phpprobid software. Always have been. If you buy v6 today and v7 is out next year, free update. I have had nothing but good communications with them. Always prompt to answer any question I have. Either via their support desk, forums, or email. It is a great product with superior support. I have also had great success in dealing with the third party mod developers. I have used 3 different people from the forums and have not one bad thing to say. One of the best product purchases I have ever made.

I have been considering buying the phpprobid script for an auction website am planning. But been researching other scripts and also the phpprobid script. This is the first am reading about issues about the script and the company, and it draw my attention alot. Phil, did you ever get your problems resolve and did you get your site up and open to the public, post the link to your site. Is there a better auction script out there than phpprobid and does anyone of you do or know someone who can develop an auction site from scratch or do excellent customization to a pre-made script like phpprobid?

Getting into the forums was very difficult for me as well. And, like you, I was really irked that I had paid for a script, yet had such a difficult time just being allowed into the user forums.

But what pissed me off even more is that once you are allowed into the forums, should you post anything negative about the software or the company, you will find that your post gets quietly removed. Phpprobid is not a company open to any sort of criticism, no matter how founded in truth it is.

Also, unlike many other scripts I have purchased over the years, whatever the version of the software is at the time you buy it, you are locked into forever unless you pay for version upgrades. It is the only website software that I have ever purchased that does not provide for lifetime updates.

And I too have been dumfounded by the zend/ioncube puzzle. I purposely downloaded the zend version, since zend was already installed on our server and ioncube was not.

Zend and ioncube are two different types of encoding php code and are typically mutually exclusive.

Yet when I attempted to run the software I too got the message stating that the software was encoded using ioncube and that I would need to install ioncube in order for the software to work.

So, at least from my experience, Phpprobid requires BOTH zend and ioncube in order to function.

As a result of this, and the inability to actually view and edit the code myself, in the three years since my purchase of phpprobid, I have never and will never purchase another script that is encoded. I always ask first, and if it's encoded, it's a no sale. There are plenty of other scripts out there that are not encoded.

I requested to joined the forum but no response from phpprobid. How is the user support (after purchase) apart from the forum?

@UR Site is Gay
I'm sorry you feel that way, I actually agree with you on the point that the design is hard on the eyes. I don't agree on the opinion that it's "the worst site ever". But, I will take in consideration your lack of maturity and translate your comment into "This site is not designed the best way possible...I enjoy the effect and see what you were going for, but users might feel it's a little hard on the eyes".

Now that we have that covered, I will probably lighten the diagonal lines in the background and darken the boxes, if that doesn't fix it, I will probably just go with a standard dark text / light background. Thanks for your input and I'll probably never hear from you again.
